THAI talks new jets with Airbus, Boeing

Thai Airways International has begun talks with Airbus and Boeing to negotiate discounts and easier terms on orders for 15 high-capacity planes worth more than 35 billion baht. THAI president Piyasvasti Amranand had separate discussions with top executives at the two aviation companies last week at the annual meeting of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) in Berlin. He declined to give details of the talks but indicated that the flag carrier's decision on aircraft acquisition would depend largely on the attractiveness of the financial packages offered by the two planemakers.
Preliminary discussions have already taken place between lower-level managers at THAI and Airbus and Boeing, but the Berlin meetings saw negotiations take a higher level.
