ROLLS-ROYCE AND BRITISH AIRWAYS COMPLETE $5BN TRENT ENGINE CONTRACTS

BA And Iberia Plan Big Joint Widebody Order

British Airways and its merger partner Iberia are preparing to begin advanced discussions with Airbus and Boeing early next year about a potentially huge joint order for widebody transports.

The two carriers, which recently launched their joint transatlantic business with Oneworld alliance partner American Airlines, should be formally united under the International Airlines Group umbrella by early next year. BA and Iberia both have a requirement for new large widebody twinjets from the second half of the decade, says BA Director-Strategy and Business Units Robert Boyle, who confirms that the merged airlines intend to place a joint order.

“We’re always talking to the manufacturers, but we’re now preparing to ramp up discussions in the new year about a joint order,” he says.

British Airways, Cathay Recall Jumbos From California Desert

Boeing Co. 747 jumbo jets are being brought out of desert storage as surging bookings spur carriers including British Airways Plc and Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. to return their biggest planes to traffic.

Iberia places A320 order on behalf of British Airways
