With All Nippon Airways converting its 787-3s to 787-8s, future high gross weight variants of the airplane may yet provide a high cycle, high capacity 787 model.
All Nippon Airways may have remained committed to the 787-3 for as long as it possibly could, but in order to expedite deliveries of the oft-delayed airplane, it made the choice to switch orders to the baseline 787-8 instead. Critically, Boeing has now avoided design, engineering and fabrication costs associated with the short range 787-3.
Given that the 787-3 and 787-8 share an identical fuselage, dual or singular cabin layouts of 290-330 seats is still possible with the 787-8.
