Airbus A321 Falls Short Behind Boeing 737-900ER

Even with winglets, Airbus’ A321 would neither replace the current 757 market nor match the 737-900ER for payload/performance although the gap between the two would be reduced.
Airbus expects that its winglet-equipped A321 would boost range by around 100nm to roughly 3,015nm with three more passengers (183) than the competing 737-900ER (180).
However, the 737-900ER still flies 250nm further or could carry a higher payload at the same range as the A321 with winglets. Airbus introduced optional fuel tanks to boost the A321 range although with its optional fuel tanks included too, the 737-900ER still has better......
