Another Look At Boeing’s Decision To Raise 737 Production Rates

Boeing has stated that it will announce this fall, what, if anything it intends to do (or not do) in relation to the Next Generation 737 family. Increasing production may not necessarily mean a new model is being worked on. The bullish view is that the company has closed the business case for an all new design and will launch late this year or early next. The bear view is that it’ll do nothing.

In between, the company may have driven up rates not just based on current demand or a fall in deferrals, but it could also be that there are further orders expected to be sealed in the out years from 2013 onwards. The most glaringly obvious candidate here is......
