NORWEGIAN SELECTS ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT 1000 AND $450 MILLION SERVICES PACKAGE

Norwegian has selected Trent 1000 engines from Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, to power nine Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The airline has also signed a $450m Rolls-Royce TotalCare® long-term engine services contract. This is the first time Norwegian has selected Rolls-Royce engines.
The order takes the total number of airlines that have selected the Trent 1000 to......

Boeing Scrutinizes Rolls Recovery Plan for 787 Dreamliner Jets

Boeing Co. will begin poring over plans today from Rolls-Royce Group Plc aimed at avoiding further delays to the 787 Dreamliner following the blowout of an engine in testing last month, the head of its jetliner division said.

A team from London-based Rolls-Royce will deliver a briefing today and tomorrow in Seattle, where the 787 is built, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President Jim Albaugh said in an interview yesterday. The proposed steps should allow the aircraft to enter service as planned early......

Cause of 787 engine test failure remains unclear

As Boeing's lead 787 returned to flight operations on 17 September following an engine surge, uncertainty continues to surrounds the investigation into the 2 August uncontained failure in ground testing of a Package A Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine.

Boeing says the ongoing investigation by itself, Rolls-Royce and regulators into the incident that destroyed a production engine and damaged the......

787 number nine gets its engines

Last week in Everett, two factory fresh Rolls-Royce engines showed up ready to be hung under the wings of 787 Airplane Nine ( ZA102/N6066Z). Boeing confirmed the arrival and installation of Trent 1000 serial numbers 10039 and 10037. The installation makes Airplane Nine the first production 787 to receive its engines.

The August 2 uncontained failure of one of the engine originally intended for Airplane Nine sidelined that unit and damaged the test facility, prompting an approximately three to four week slide in delivery of the powerplants to Boeing.

This delay, says Boeing, coupled with the inspections and rework of the horizontal stabilizer, which Boeing expected would push the schedule "a few weeks" into 2011 adds up to first delivery in......

Trent 1000 engine failure no problem for B787 deliveries

The 02-Aug-2010 failure of a Rolls-Royce Trent 100 engine during ground testing is not expected to have any affect on the delivery of the B787, according to both the engine manufacturer and Boeing. B787 launch customer, All Nippon Airways, is due to receive its first aircraft by the end of the year, to be powered by the Trent 1000, which has yet to take to the air on a B787.

Rolls-Royce and Boeing are investigating the failure, related to a turbine on early production engines. The engine is due to commence test flying and certification for B787s later in the year. Rolls-Royce plans to introduce several improvements and modifications to later production Trent 1000 engines. EASA is working with Rolls-Royce on engine certification.

No production Trent 1000s have yet been delivered to the B787 final assembly line in Everett, Washington State. Boeing has announced a second......

FAA confirms Trent 1000 failure was uncontained

The US FAA has confirmed the 2 August engine failure of the 'Package A' Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 was uncontained.

The incident, which occurred during a ground test at the engine-maker's Derby, UK test facility, has been initially linked to the failure of the engine's intermediate pressure (IP) turbine.

Following the initial incident, neither Rolls-Royce nor Boeing would confirm the failure had not been......

787 schedule in jeopardy following Trent 1000 testbed failure

Boeing's oft-delayed 787 schedule may again find itself in jeopardy as the airframer and engine-maker Rolls-Royce investigate the failure of a Trent 1000 engine intended to power an early -8 delivery to launch customer All Nippon Airways.

R-R confirms that one of its "Package A" Trent 1000 engines suffered a failure during a......
