After much debate during the last six months about whether Airbus and Boeing should re-engine their existing narrowbody aircraft, Airbus launched its new engine option (NEO) A320 NEO yesterday.
Many lessors have publicly campaigned against the Neo, saying that it threatens the residual values of the existing product lines. However, not all investors feel that the A320neo will destroy the existing fleet.
“It’s less of an issue for operating lessors than a brand new redesign of the A320,” says Henri Courpron, CEO, International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC).
ILFC, arguably the largest lessor in the world based on portfolio value, owns and leases hundreds of A320 Family aircraft. And, Courpron is not concerned about ILFC’s existing fleet.
