AIG unit pursuing African aircraft leasing deals

CAPE TOWN, Aug 17 (Reuters) - American International Group's (AIG.N) aircraft leasing unit ILFC is negotiating with several national and commercial airlines to try and double its footprint in Africa by 2015, an executive said on Tuesday.

Air travel is flourishing across Africa, where rapidly improving economies are helping the industry emerge from the global downturn. "We would love to double our exposure in Africa from, I think it's 20 aircraft at the moment, in the next five years," Ozzie Chraibi, vice president at International Lease Finance Corporation told Reuters on the sidelines of an African aviation conference.
