Much of the higher value of ILFCs portfolio is enamoured with 777s, 787s and A350s. The latter two have yet to reach ILFCs books while the A380s are sat around doing a whole lot of nothing, waiting to be dropped no doubt.
ILFC will have two choices over its A380 orders. Either cancel them or convert to something else. The latter seems the most plausible outcome given that the limping lessor has not yet terminated the contract, but even so, ILFC has tried and failed to place even a single unit of this unloved airplane.
It makes much more sense to buy directly from Airbus with a lower sticker price, better contractual guarantees and with the production system for the A380 still in disarray, there is little incentive for airlines to “rush” and buy it while yield growth continues to die.
